'Market Coupling in the European Internal Market for Electricity. An Analysis of the Regulation on the Internal Market for Electricity and the Commission's Guideline on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management': Since the 1990s, the EU has been striving to establish a common internal electricity market with cross-border competition. This study examines market coupling as an instrument to achieve economically efficient congestion management at the interface between electricity grid operation and electricity trading. The focus is on the regulatory requirements for capacity calculation and capacity allocation in the spot market, including their material and formal legal basis and their implementation by the regulatory authorities.
