This conference proceedings is for the International Conference on Green Policies and Practices: Catalyst or Pressure for Trade and Investment. The conference was organized on 22nd and 23rd November 2024 at University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University - Hanoi. The conference is the 12th in the series of annual Conferences on International Economic Cooperation and Integration (CIECI), initiated in 2013 by the VNU-UEB. The theme of the conference, "Green Policies and Practices: Catalyst or Pressure for Trade and Investment", reflects one of the most pressing debates of our time: the balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability. As global trade and investment deepen, the urgency of integrating green standards into policies and practices has never been greater.

Green Policies and Practices

In recent years, increasingly sophisticated metrics have been created to measure sustainability. First devised to address environmental concerns such as greenhouse gas emissions, they now also assess organizational governance, community benefits, and hiring practices, among others. The field of sustainability management uses these metrics to track and advance progress on environmental, social, and business goals. How can an organization incorporate sustainability metrics into performance measurement and decision making? Which metrics should different organizations adopt, and why? What should sustainability management do to adapt in the face of political hostility, economic volatility, and technological change? This book is a comprehensive guide to sustainability metrics and management, introducing readers to key concepts and techniques. It details the measurement process needed to produce reliable and verifiable sustainability metrics and discusses the relationship to financial performance. The authors show how to integrate sustainability into the core of organizational management and make it a routine part of administration. This book presents an integrative and in-depth approach to understanding electricity markets. It combines engineering, economics, and regulatory and public policy, with business analysis. The first part of the book presents the key concepts in these fields relevant to the study of electricity markets. Starting with power engineering basics, the book proceeds to explain how these engineering fundamentals, combined with economic and regulatory theory, are used to design and operate successful electricity markets. With this foundation, business analyses of all sectors of the electric power industry -- generation, transmission, distribution, retail supply, energy efficiency, and demand response -- are conducted. The second part of the book contains several chapters on advanced electricity market topics that use the integrative approach developed in the first section. These advanced topics include the history of restructured electricity markets, regulating electricity derivatives, and how to run an energy services company.

The dominant discourse views the Indian economy's transformation over several decades as a progression towards a grand, unified, and dynamic market economy. Critiquing this discourse, The Nonfarm Economy illustrates the prevalence and intensification of 'structural dualism'. Using both theoretical and empirical perspectives, Bhattacharjee, Chakrabarti, and Rajeev analyse the origins of this persistence and the deepening of a dualistic developmental pattern. By studying the Indian rural economy and parts of the rural Global South, they demonstrate how the contemporary capital-centric growth process itself has induced the intensification of dualism, alongside factors such as population growth and land fragmentation. Only a limited segment of the impoverished population can integrate with the expanding circuits of capital using their skills, resources, and networks; a large mass of people is thus pushed towards dispossession and exclusion. The book further examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on this development pattern, demonstrating how it has intensified the phenomenon of structural dualism. Contrary to the current prescriptions fixated on formal sector growth and policies extending government support, the authors posit a labour-focused (cluster-based) development model and offer constructive policy recommendations for achieving inclusive growth.

As national governments and global institutions fail to address climate change, an increasing number of cities have committed to major sustainability and climate strategies. Elements in Environmental, Natural Resource and Sustainable Development Economic

Environmental economics is growing rapidly. It is simply not sufficient to consider consumption, production, and welfare in isolation from the natural environment. Integrating ecological systems in economic analysis requires to take the possible occurrence of tipping points or regime shifts into account. This Element focuses on two recent developments in environmental economics theory. One is economic management of ecological systems with tipping points, with the lake as the classical example. The other one is investigating the consequences of uncertain possible shocks to parameters in economic models, with the carrying capacity in a fishery and total factor productivity (due to climate tipping) in Ramsey growth as examples. This Element provides a precise account of the concepts, techniques, and results in the analysis of these models, which shows the effects of tipping and allows for other applications.
