What goals are still feasible for the politics of emancipation on a ruined planet? This is where we are. Today's techno-oligarchs are not concerned with saving the planet; rather, they have accepted the end of progress and are focused on safeguarding their wealth in the face of an impending political and ecological collapse. Artificial intelligence and algorithms make decisions for us. Climate breakdown has long steamed past the wreckage of the Paris Agreement. Perhaps the accelerationists have the right idea. Accelerationism - which aims to resolve the current crisis through the intensification of technological development - is the only philosophy not clinging to the now-extinct idea of progress. The idea has gained ground on both the left and right: but the right-wing is shot through with misanthropy, while the left remains entangled in a faith in technological progress and the domination of nature. Adopting a multidisciplinary approach to climate adjudication, this open access book addresses how adjudicators decide cases by considering the influence of psychology, philosophy, legal education, film, literature, political economy, political ecology, judicial appointments, history, and climate science on their decision-making and ultimately on the (inconsistent) outcomes in climate cases. Drawing upon the humanities, science of climate change and/or social sciences to identify extra-legal factors that may drive the decision-making processes and outcomes of climate cases, this book uses case studies from different jurisdictions across the globe, addressing climate cases decided or pending in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin and North America, and Oceania. In all, the volume will: - Engage with extra-legal influence to how show judges and arbitrators make their decisions in climate cases, shedding light on the inconsistent responses that climate cases have generated so far - Challenge assumptions of legal universalism, by recognising differences in how the law works in various - Inform actors involved in climate litigation (lawyers, judges, arbitrators, disputants), policymakers, and the public about how cases are decided. This cutting-edge collection is a riposte to the deep assumption that law should be written exclusively for and by the reasonable person, as the person to whom law is addressed and by reference to whom laws are designed and calibrated. The book looks at how the social dimension of the human experience is central to human existence: connections with other people shape our lives in profound ways. While law confers formal status on certain relationships and intervenes to remedy serious injustices that occur, it does not generally concern itself with the individual as a person formed through those and other relationships. It is most often addressed to the individual, on the assumption that individuals are rational autonomous agents. It poses a deep challenge to that assumption. First, the collection opens space for conversation on the social dimension of the human experience in the context of law by critically considering existing conceptual tools that could support such a conversation, e.g., community, solidarity, associations,collective rights, and cosmopolitan law. Second, the collection takes an inventory of the extent to which law currently takes the social dimension of personhood into account in fields as diverse as criminal culpability, natural resources law, human rights, company lawand administrative justice. In moving beyond the fields that have already been the subject of post-individualist and post-autonomy discourse, such as family law and medical law, this collection is a vital contribution to igniting a broader conversation about the relationship between the sociable person and the law.

 Pursuing a socio-legal approach, the book examines the social and political processes behind the implementation of parts of the EU’s anti-air pollution policies and regulations. The case of Małopolska is particularly interesting for two reasons. First, because the region – and its capital, Kraków – were once confronted with severe smog, which led to the premature deaths of thousands of citizens. Despite the tremendous scale of the problem, public awareness remained surprisingly low. Second, because in the 2010s, a massive social movement emerged that pressured the local government to introduce two pioneering measures: a total ban on coal and wood heating in Kraków, and a gradual ban on inefficient furnaces in the rest of the region.&nbsp;
 
 The book provides a detailed account of these processes and assesses the effectiveness of the attendant measures, thereby contributing to the broader literature on effective tools for cleaner air.
