Batman: The Brave and the Bold: Myths and Mysteries

Penguin Clothbound Classics

A beautiful Clothbound Classics edition of Kafka's chilling and darkly entertaining exploration of life's absurdity A Penguin Classics Hardcover A terrifying psychological trip into the life of one Joseph K., an ordinary man who wakes up one day to find himself accused of a crime he did not commit, a crime whose nature is never revealed to him. Once arrested, he is released, but must report to court on a regular basis - an event that proves maddening, as nothing is ever resolved. As he grows more uncertain of his fate, his personal life - including work at a bank and his relations with his landlady and a young woman who lives next door - becomes increasingly unpredictable. As K. tries to gain control, he succeeds only in accelerating his own excruciating downward spiral. This is a stunning new Clothbound Classics edition of Kafka's major novel, designed by the award-winning Coralie Bickford-Smith and translated by Idris Parry. These delectable and collectible Penguin editions are bound in colourful, tactile cloth with foil stamped into the design.

The Trial

Secret Projects

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes a legendary standalone novel that navigates the seas and the stars of a far-future Cosmere. Illustrated by Esther Hi'ilani Candari. All his life, Sixth of the Dusk has been a traditional trapper of Aviar-the supernatural birds his people bond with-on the deadly island of Patji. Then one fateful night he propels his people into a race to modernize before they can be conquered by the Ones Above, invaders from the stars who want to exploit the Aviar. But it's a race they're losing, and Dusk fears his people will lose themselves in the effort. When a chance comes to sail into the expanse of the emberdark beyond a mystical portal, Dusk sets off to find his people's salvation with only a canoe, his birds, and all the grit and canniness of a Patji trapper. Elsewhere in the emberdark is a young dragon chained in human form: Starling of the starship Dynamic. She and her ragtag crew of exiles are deep in debt and on the brink of losing their freedom. So when she finds an ancient map to a hidden portal between the emberdark and the physical realm, she seizes the chance at a lucrative discovery. These unlikely allies might just be the solution to each other's crises. In their search for independence, Dusk and Starling face perilous bargains, poisonous politics, and the destructive echo of a dead god. Sanderson expands his thrilling novella "Sixth of the Dusk" into a mythic novel of legends, lore, and warring galactic superpowers.

A Cosmere Novel

Isles of the Emberdark

Relato de un náufrago / The Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor

This open access book introduces the first systematic approach to the debate on the unity or fragmentation of practical reasoning and its profound implications for legal philosophy. Bringing together some of the foremost legal philosophers from the Hispanic-Latin world, the book presents a thoughtful dialogue with the Anglo-American literature, making it of interest to scholars from both cultural traditions. Although the topic is rarely discussed explicitly and systematically, it is pivotal to ongoing debates about legal normativity, the nature of law, legal authority, and the rationale behind legal decisions. This book fills this gap by providing a comprehensive perspective that illuminates the intersections between the philosophy of law and the philosophy of practical reasoning. It analyses law from the perspective of the agent and offers deep insights into critical issues in the field of law. The volume is divided into four parts. The 1st part addresses the question of the nature of reasons and the unity of practical and theoretical reasoning. The 2nd part deals with the question of whether practical reasoning works in a unified or fragmented way. The 3rd section examines the autonomy of legal normativity in relation to morality and other normative domains. In the 4th and concluding section, the authors analyse the implications of the thesis of the unity of practical reason for legal decision-making and the authority of law. The ebook editions of this book are available open access under a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence on bloomsburycollections.com.

Wind and Truth

Fire Safety Law and Practice provides a comprehensive and authoritative overview of the legislative framework that governs fire safety in England and Wales. Taking into account the significant amendments that have followed the tragic events of Grenfell Tower, it explains who is subject to duties under the order and what those duties are. It then deals with enforcement, covering the duties on enforcing authorities and the investigatory powers available to them, before looking at both the bringing of criminal proceedings and the powers to issue alteration, prohibition and enforcement notices. Accessible to both those new to the field and experienced legal practitioners, and to fire safety inspectors as well as risk assessors, it serves not only as a reference work, but also provides a detailed practical guide for those working in this area on a daily basis. This title is included in Bloomsbury Professional's Company and Commercial Law online service.

Little Clothbound Classics

Little Clothbound Classics: irresistible, mini editions of short stories, novellas, and essays from the world’s greatest writers, designed by the award-winning Coralie Bickford-Smith. In these elegant and devastating tales of deception, desire, and social intrigue, Edith Wharton exposes the brittle veneer of civility that masks human ambition and longing. From the sunlit terraces of Rome to the drawing rooms of New York, Wharton’s characters navigate a world bound by class and convention yet charged with emotional undercurrents they barely understand. In “Roman Fever,” two middle-aged women confront the unspoken rivalries that have shadowed their friendship for decades; in “Mrs. Manstey’s View,” a lonely widow’s cherished glimpse of life beyond her window becomes the stage for a quiet tragedy; and in “After Holbein,” the elaborate pretenses of two aging New Yorkers reveal the haunting persistence of vanity and illusion. These Wharton works are the latest to join the Little Clothbound Classic series designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith.
