When we think of the trailblazing photographer Dennis Morris's work, music is right there. Morris's adventures in the 1970s reggae and punk scene laid the groundwork for a six-decade career. It all began with Bob Marley: Morris doorstepped Marley in his early teens while skipping school and went on to capture much of Marley's tour, which launched his career as a music photographer. He later became the official photographer for the Sex Pistols, and for John Lydon's next project, Public Image Limited, Morris was art director and designer as well as taking iconic images for the band. He captured the greats of reggae and roots music, from Lee 'Scratch' Perry to Toots and Jimmy Cliff, forming friendships with many of the acts. Morris's documentary and street photography work, with roots in his experiences as a Black teenager in 1970s Britain, bring us visionary projects that explore race, politics and cultural identity. From the miner's strike to squat protests, from civil rights organizations to pop-up studio portraits, his work was a reckoning with his new home, capturing eccentricity and individual spirits with his camera. Edited by Laurie Hurwitz, this book unfolds in two electrifying parts: the first unravels Morris's lens on race, culture and identity in 1970s Britain, while the second pulses with encounters with music legends like Patti Smith, Gregory Isaacs, The Stone Roses and Radiohead. Sie stellt Verbindungen zu internationaler Forschung ebenso her wie zu verschiedenen Disziplinen und bringt unterschiedliche Schreibweisen und Textformate, Bilder und Gespräche zusammen, um der Vielfalt, mit der geschrieben, nachgedacht und experimentiert werden kann, Raum zu geben.
Nicht erst seit den Debatten über cultural appropriation ist Aneignung ein wiederkehrendes und wichtiges Thema der Medienwissenschaft. Hatten die Cultural Studies die aktive Rezeption als Form der Aneignung aufgefasst, so hat sich mit den digitalen Partizipationskulturen das Versprechen der User*innen-Ermächtigung auf das ¿Prosumieren¿ verlagert. Der Schwerpunkt schlägt vor, am Beispiel von Meme-Kulturen die Potentiale und Probleme von Aneignung neu zu überdenken und dabei die Kritik an kultureller Aneignung, aber auch Ideen zum digitalen commoning aufzugreifen: Wann kann Aneignung widerständig oder solidarisch sein, und in welchen Fällen reproduziert sie herrschende Besitz- und Machtverhältnisse?

This intimate photo chronicle by Polly Samson documents both the recording of David Gilmour's No. 1 album Luck and Strange and the acclaimed tour which saw the Pink Floyd legend playing sellout shows in Rome, London, LA and New York. Samson, who is Gilmour's partner and creative collaborator, as well as an acclaimed novelist / photographer in her own right, captures the process as the album takes shape: from conception and recording, off-duty and studio immersion, to release and live performance; from candid behind-the-scenes shots, to theatrical stage moments. We see an artist at work, the collaborative process, the moments of light relief - and the focus as the work takes flight. The book features the unmistakable hand lettering of Anton Corbijn on the cover and throughout, plus an interview by rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky with Polly Samson that sheds light on a photographer's craft, as well as providing insights into Samson's relationship with Gilmour. The foreword is written by the late Alan Yentob.

A Financial Times Book of the Year A bold exploration of the role of the domestic interior in fashion photography and its importance in defining a new kind of fashion image. For three decades, the fashion image has shifted its focus from high-end shoots to the idiosyncratic, Instagram-style practice of pictures taken at home. That home may be a house, apartment or room - often, though not always, the antithesis of glamour and gloss. The Domestic Stage captures this fascination with the home as an 'uncurated' setting for presenting an individual's private life and relationships, and for professional commissions with edge.
