Eva Lohmanns Roman "Das leise Platzen unserer Träume" (2023). Literaturwissenschaftliche und -kritische Perspektiven

Geschichte im mitteleuropäischen Kontext

This book offers a compelling exploration of how women's stories shape - and are often erased from - the life of a university. Using the Nicolaus Copernicus University as a vivid case study, it uncovers the hidden labour, gendered barriers, and structural inequalities that define academic institutions worldwide. By restoring women to the centre of the narrative, the volume invites readers to rethink how universities remember, value, and organise themselves. It is both a revelation of the past and a call to imagine more inclusive futures across higher education.

GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK Nothing to lose. Everything to gain. Winner takes all. “Every bit as addictive as your favorite guilty pleasure binge-watch, but with all the substance of a literary classic.”—Oprah Daily “It’s fun to watch hot people do psychotic things in this novel. . . . Smart and provocative [and] so damn addictive.”—The New York Times Book Review A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: NPR, THE NEW YORKER, GOOD HOUSEKEEPING, OPRAH DAILY, THE GLOBE AND MAIL, CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY Lily—a bored, beautiful twenty-something—wakes up on a remote desert compound, alongside nineteen other contestants competing on a massively popular reality show. To win, she must outlast her housemates to stay in the Compound the longest, while competing in challenges for luxury rewards like champagne and lipstick, plus communal necessities to outfit their new home, like food, appliances, and a front door. Cameras are catching all her angles, good and bad, but Lily has no desire to leave: why would she, when the world outside is falling apart? As the competition intensifies, intimacy between the players deepens, and it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish between desire and desperation. When the unseen producers raise the stakes, forcing contestants into upsetting, even dangerous situations, the line between playing the game and surviving it begins to blur. If Lily makes it to the end, she’ll receive prizes beyond her wildest dreams—but what will she have to do to win? Addictive and prescient, The Compound is an explosive debut from a major new voice in fiction and will linger in your mind long after the game ends.

Women, Power, and Gender in the Middle East examines the mechanisms through which gendered authority is both enforced and contested within evolving structures of governance, addressing a central question: how are women's rights shaped, constrained, and negotiated under conditions of political instability, authoritarian reform, and state fragmentation? The volume covers Turkey, Iran, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, North and East Syria (Rojava), the United Arab Emirates, and the Maghreb. Drawing on qualitative interviews, field research, legal and policy analysis, and feminist political theory, contributors analyse a range of issues, including honour-based violence, women's movements, state-led reform, the Women, Peace and Security agenda, the Iranian MeToo mobilisation, reproductive labour and surrogacy, and processes of racialisation and individuation. The volume moves beyond reductive culturalist explanations of gender, conceptualising gendered violence, reform, and mobilisation as interrelated dimensions of governance and political transformation. By bringing together grassroots activism, institutional change, and everyday regulatory practices within a unified analytical framework, the book advances a more nuanced understanding of how gender is constituted in relation to state power and authority. This volume is an essential resource for scholars and students of gender studies and Middle East studies, as well as for policymakers and practitioners seeking rigorous, empirically grounded insight into the intersection of governance and gender in contemporary regional politics.Chapter 7 of this book is freely available as a downloadable Open Access PDF at http://www.taylorfrancis.com under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives (CC BY-NC-ND) 4.0 license.

Routledge Research in Polar Regions

This book examines gender and socio-spatial inequalities in the context of climate change in the European Arctic states, analysing how climate policies, governance, and adaptation responses shape uneven social impacts across different regions and communities. It provides a critical understanding of how climate change intersects with gender and socio-spatial inequalities in the European Arctic. Drawing on feminist evaluation and feminist geography, this book combines theoretical analysis with empirical research based on policy documents and interviews. Through country case studies, this book offers a structured assessment of climate governance and adaptation responses, helping readers understand how policies translate into uneven social impacts and where gaps in inclusivity and justice remain.Gender, Climate Change and the European Arctic is intended for researchers, students, and academics working in climate change studies, political science, gender studies, Arctic studies, and geography. Genders and Sexualities in the Social Sciences

“This thoughtfully curated collection of interdisciplinary essays not only interrogates Western understandings of feminist resistance but also challenges conventional understandings of the South Asian subcontinent as a motley crew of postcolonial states. Revealing it instead as a dynamic region marked by a variety of interconnected activisms. Taken together, the editor’s and authors’ feminist and critical regional South Asian lens on ideas and representations of gender and sexuality as well as movements, policies, and everyday experiences pertaining to gender and sexuality offer us invaluable fresh perspectives that help us re-envision linkages between the global, regional, and local.” —Elora Shehabuddin, Professor of Gender & Women’s Studies, University of California, Berkeley, USA
“South Asia’s rich tradition of multiplicity in gender, colonialism and postcolonial, law, culture and economy, new patterns of gender politics, grassroots organizing, key legal cases, violence, migration, media and state strategies are all illuminated in this valuable collection of studies from six countries.” —Raewyn Connell, University of Sydney, Australia
“Drawing on ethnographic, historical, and theoretical legacies of gender diversity authors offer nuanced, original, and complex enactments of identities and activist social movements in South Asia. A provocative and valuable contribution to decolonizing studies of gender and sexuality”. —Chandra Talpade Mohanty, Distinguished Professor and Chair, Women’s and Gender Studies, Syracuse University, USA
This edited volume is a decolonial/deconstructive approach to South Asian gender and sexuality studies, which it reimagines through a pluralized, multivariate lens. It decenters hegemonic feminist debates and rearticulates gender and sexuality through critical regionalism, border-politics, land and social movements, indigeneity, law and jurisprudence and broader social textuality. Chapters offer perspectives from the humanities, social sciences, public health, international relations and law, as well as organizers and advocates committed to women and gender studies.

New Gender Politics in South Asia

This volume provides a comprehensive exploration of the barriers and facilitators women encounter on their leadership paths, enriching the literature on gender and leadership dynamics. More specifically, it uncovers several previously underexplored areas of women’s identity development as leaders, such as intersectionality, examining how factors such as race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background intersect with gender to shape unique leadership experiences. The chapters also explore socio-cultural variations in becoming a leader, analyze the impact of organizational norms and expectations on leadership influencing women’s leadership identity, and study how leadership identities evolve through different career stages. By examining these aspects, this work offers new insights into the complex and multifaceted nature of women's leadership identity development across diverse contexts.By highlighting women’s leadership and their identity development, this book uniquely positions itself to help scholars and scholar-practitioners in HRD, leadership, and gender studies gain an in-depth understanding of the current and future challenges women face in becoming leaders and the support mechanisms and processes shaping their leadership identity development.Yoshie Tomozumi Nakamura

Historische Geschlechterforschung
