'The Sibling Relationship. A Legal and Interdisciplinary Analysis': Although siblings are part of the inner family circle, siblings are often subject to the same provisions as unrelated third parties. Even when there are special rules for siblings, the law usually differs from the exceptions provided for parents and their children and spouses. The understanding of the quality of the sibling relationship resulting from the provisions analysed is inconsistent and corresponds only partially with the findings of social science research on siblings.
