The law codes in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region are a well-crafted blend of civil and Islamic law in which civil law principles do not violate Islamic provisions. Yet, common law principles derived either from English common law or Islamic customary usages remain unidentified and thus ignored. Here, this complex scenario is rectified through a comparative analysis of the primary data (e.g. cases, statutes and arbitral award decisions), adding common law and uncodified Islamic custom to MENA law codes. The purpose of this comparative analysis is to allow common legal principles found in civil, common and Islamic law to be distilled in order to create a new, harmonised international commercial arbitration law code (HICALC) or uniform Arab arbitration law (UAAL) for adoption in the MENA region, where these principles already greatly influence the legal systems and can be readily assimilated into a harmonised or uniform code. The work demonstrates that this new code would lead to improved arbitral award enforcement in the MENA.

A Model Harmonised International Arbitration Law Code for the Middle East and North Africa

This book primarily investigates the development of China's digital economy. The book begins by summarizing and outlining the context and background of the development of China's digital economy. Subsequently, it employs a research approach that combines survey data and big data analysis to quantitatively analyze value networks and relationship data. Based on the attributes and relational data from the China-Nankai Intelligent Economy Database samples, a comprehensive and in-depth characterization and analysis of the current status, fundamental structure, and driving mechanisms of China's digital economy is conducted. Furthermore, an in-depth study of the key driving mechanisms of China's digital economic development is undertaken, along with an examination and analysis of the digital economic development policies of major developed countries and regions. Through the research presented in this book, readers gain a deeper understanding of the inherent patterns of digital economic development and their potential impacts.

New Frontiers in Regional Science: Asian Perspectives

This book integrates diversified disciplines, research approaches, and methodologies of area studies, regional economic development, and regional science. With its huge population, China has accomplished rapid economic growth since the 1990s, although the significant income gap among regions and individuals has become a serious problem for its society. China's accession to the WTO in 2001 has had various influences on the entire food system, from agriculture to consumers, through the food manufacturing and distribution industries. The changes in the Chinese food system are considered to have also affected the agriculture and food industries in Asian countries where economic interdependence has been promoted in past decades. The author argues these issues based on interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary methods and approaches and has successfully derived empirical and theoretical results that are rich in policy implications. The topics addressed include food security and sustainability of agriculture especially in the suburbs of big cities; poverty reduction in rural agricultural areas amidst prosperity in urban and coastal areas; regional networks and international trade of the food industry in East Asia; creation of innovative knowledge and human capital for clustering of the agro-food sector; regional development strategy; and international cooperation. The book is interesting for researchers in the field, especially for those who are concerned with the food system that has been changed dynamically in the past two decades, and it is informative, as well, for practitioners who are engaged in related business.

 made factors, and without a comprehensive, systems-level approach, meaningful solutions remain out
 
 of reach. Tackling this involves concentrated policies that go beyond technical fixes—it demands
 
 coordinated efforts that bridge sectors, disciplines, and national borders.
 
 Using the metaphor of the Gordian Knot to underscore just how intricate and entrenched the problem
 
 has become, this book examines environmental and climatic challenges. The first section of the book
 
 includes chapters dealing with the natural factors for the crisis, and the second section will encompass
 
 chapters addressing human-made factors, such as political, economic, and social drivers. Each chapter
 
 includes targeted policy recommendations grounded in current research.
 
 Weaving together interdisciplinary research and analysis, the book offers actionable insights and
 
 opportunities to address the manmade and environmental problems, furthering the food crisis in Africa
 
 today.
 Judith Irene Nagasha
 is a lecturer at Kyambogo University in Uganda. Equipped with a PhD in
 
 gender and climate change, she is the lead collaborator for the translating science into policy and
 
 practice Agrifose 2030 project for young researchers in Africa, supported by the Swedish International
 
 Development Agency. Nagasha is spearheading the milk and fisheries value chain and marketing
 
 systems projects in Uganda. Her research focuses on the gender perspectives in food security, climate
 
 change, and indigenous knowledge.
 Abdul Karim Bangura 
 is the putative dean and senior mentor of the CODESRIA College of Mentors
 
 Institute. He is Researcher-in-Residence of Abrahamic Connections and Islamic Peace at American
 
 University’s Center for Global Peace and Director of the African Institution, both in Washington, D.C.
 
 He has 5 PhDs in the following topics: development economics, political science, linguistics, computer
 
 science and mathematics. Bangura is the innovator of more than a dozen theories and research

How apprenticeship shaped the English economy Apprenticeship dominated training and skill formation in early modern Europe. Years spent learning from a skilled master were a nearly universal experience for young workers in crafts and trade. In England, when apprenticeship reached its peak, as many as a third of all teenage males would serve and learn as apprentices. In The Market for Skill, Patrick Wallis shows how apprenticeship helped reshape the English economy. Some historians see apprenticeship as a key ingredient in the industrial revolution; others agree with Adam Smith in seeing it as wasteful and conservative.
