Crime and Criminology in South Africa provides a comprehensive analysis of criminological theory, the criminal justice system and prevalent forms of criminality (namely gender-based violence, racially motivated and xenophobic crime, property crime, organised crime and corporate crime) in South Africa. In addition the book aims to contribute to the revival of theoretical criminology, which currently receives little systematic attention in South Africa.

The book is split into three parts: Part One contains an analysis of criminological theory; Part Two examines specific forms of criminality that are prevalent in South Africa; and Part Three evaluates criminal justice agencies and processes, as well as the position of victims in the criminal justice system. It also includes chapters on restorative justice processes and crime prevention.
