In this book, John Finnis provides a virtually unparalleled, in-depth assessment of Leon Petrażycki’s work by a Western scholar. In the opening chapter, Finnis takes up the challenge of reading Petrażycki not simply as a historical curiosity of Eastern European jurisprudence but as a thinker whose wide-ranging and ambitious ideas continue to spark debate today. He critiques not only Petrażycki’s non-standard “economic analysis of law,” which differs markedly from the Chicago School model (not to mention from Guido Calabresi’s and Pietro Trimarchi’s versions), but also many other aspects of Petrażycki’s various contributions to jurisprudence. These include, above all, his legal-realistic but nonetheless appreciative treatment of the natural-law tradition(s), which makes Petrażycki both distinctive and difficult to classify in terms of standard schools of thought.Finnis’ essay is followed by nine further contributions. Written by scholars from different traditions and standpoints, they criticize, reassess, and elaborate upon Finnis’ arguments, creating a rich and multi-voiced dialogue. Diese Arbeit untersucht die bestehenden Gesetze hinsichtlich der Entnahme, Verwahrung und Verwendung von Keimmaterial und zeigt den Konflikt von Recht und Medizin durch eine kritische Auseinandersetzung auf. Auf dieser Grundlage wird ein Vorschlag für eine mögliche Neufassung des Rechts im Umgang mit kryokonserviertem menschlichen Keimmaterial erarbeitet.

&lt;p&gt;Data sharing – broadly defined as the exchange of health-related data among multiple controllers and processors – has gained increased relevance in the health sciences over recent years as the need and demand for collaboration has increased. This includes data obtained through healthcare provisions, clinical trials, observational studies, public health surveillance programs, and other data collection methods. &lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The practice of data sharing presents several notable challenges, however. Compliance with a complex and dynamic regulatory framework is essential, with the General Data Protection Regulation being a prominent example in a European context. Recent regulatory developments related to clinical trial transparency, trade secrecy, data access, AI training data, and health data spaces further contribute to the difficulties. Simultaneously, government initiatives often encourage scientists to embrace principles of “open data” and “open innovation.”&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The variety of regulations in this domain has the potential to impede widespread data sharing and hinder innovation.&amp;nbsp;This edited volume, therefore, compiles comparative case studies authored by leading scholars from diverse disciplines and jurisdictions.&amp;nbsp;The book aims to outline the legal complexities of data sharing. The Law and Ethics of Data Sharing in Health Sciences

Layal Liverpool spent her adolescence seeing different doctors, trying to find an explanation for the mysterious rash on her face and arms. When every prescription failed to cure her, she concluded that it must be a rare skin condition that defied diagnosis and treatment. That is until as an adult, she met a dermatologist who quickly provided an accurate diagnosis - eczema. How could so many specialists and medical professionals have gotten it wrong? Liverpool realised that every previous doctor she had seen had one thing in common: they were white. It took a doctor with a darker skin tone like Layal to recognise that eczema looks different on darker skin. This led her to think - what other medical conditions go undiagnosed in darker-skinned people because doctors aren't trained to recognise the diverse ways that symptoms can manifest? Could an ostensibly objective scientific practice like medicine be racist? In Systemic, Liverpool draws on her background in biomedicine and reporting from across the world to determine the ways in which racism affects our health. Race is a social construct, not a biological one, but Liverpool's research reveals that from the moment of birth, race has a profound impact on health. From cardiovascular disease to viruses, from cancer to mental illness, she delves into the reasons racial health disparities exist and reveals that diseases are not ?great equalisers' - not when you live in an unequal society. The widespread adoption of new, anti-racist medical standards will be central in creating a healthier world for everyone.
