This book examines the future of Indigenous law in Africa in connection with the legislative privatisation of Indigenous land tenure in Africa. It seeks to determine whether this privatisation has destroyed, altered, amended, or improved Indigenous law through a legislative process that has been a source of relief, controversy, concern, and frustration. The central question it addresses is: What remains of Indigenous law in the wake of this privatisation?
The book highlights Africa’s multiple legal regimes and the need to constantly question the future of these diverse legal orders, particularly Indigenous law, which paradoxically represents the majority legal order yet remains subordinate to state law and practice, even in African states that have constitutionalised indigenous law. It argues for reimagining multi-stakeholder-managed land tenure as part of the search for a moral order – a search that Indigenous African communities should continue to pursue, guided by the norms of solidarity, care, compassion, and sustenance evident in the relationships nurtured in property relations.

Dressays is an anthology of thought-provoking essays exploring how clothing can reveal the complex, deeply felt bonds we have with ourselves, our communities and the worlds through which we move. Emphasis is placed on integrating digital solutions with traditional approaches to advance the development and delivery of assistive technology. In contrast, digital assistive technology is not a panacea; innovative assistive technology interventions wield the possibility of new solutions to existing or emerging challenges in the assistive technology space. They can be particularly powerful in low-resource settings, which are currently problematic in matching demand with effective solutions. Whether in major world powers or smaller economies, constitutions around the globe are facing increasing challenges. In the United States—a country whose judiciary often dominates discussions on constitutionalism— President Donald Trump responded to unfavourable judicial rulings by calling for the impeachment of the judges involved, expressing his demands via tweets in March 2025. In January 2025, security detail was withdrawn from Kenya’s first female Chief Justice, highlighting the growing pressures faced by judiciaries worldwide. Issues such as the judicialization of politics and the protection of human rights have become enduring concerns across nearly every country. Emerging political and legal developments continually challenge courts and constitutions, often constraining the powers of judges, politicians, and other actors—while simultaneously creating new opportunities for these same actors to expand their influence. At the heart of these shifting dynamics lies a fundamental question: who holds whom accountable, to what extent, and under what conditions?
