Based on the collaborative, interdisciplinary research project Shift-Plastics this book establish sustainable circular value chains for managing plastics in the fisheries and aquaculture industries, which are significant causes of ocean plastic pollution.Focused on reducing plastic production and consumption by examining the entire life cycle and taking upstream measures, the Norwegian case presented in this book highlights globally relevant insights into how to manage the complexity of plastic pollution and the systemic changes needed for a sustainable circular economy (SCE).This book takes a transdisciplinary approach, incorporating academic perspectives and collaborating with industry and public bodies to improve plastic handling in the fisheries and aquaculture industries. It integrates multiple scientific disciplines, including technological science, policy science, economics, environmental science, design thinking, and systems thinking. It also investigates the value chain of plastic use in the fisheries and aquaculture industries to map their management practices and pinpoint issues that can be improved throughout the process. In doing so, it provides practical advice on how to create effective policies in line with a SCE for both businesses and policymakers. Further, it highlights how plastic production can be reduced through extended usability, ways to apply eco-design principles to create products that can easily be disassembled, repaired, and recycled, and options for using bioplastics and recycled materials. This open access book critically analyses a wide range of consumer law issues generated or exacerbated by the Internet of Things. The Internet of Things challenges many of the dichotomies which have shaped current laws: goods-services, hardware-software, tangible-intangible, online-offline. The book focuses on 4 specific challenges: things-as-service, liability, bricking of physical devices through software control, and the potential for enhanced personalisation, especially for digital assistants. The chapters analyse specific applications such as smart homes, connected cars, and consumer wearables with a view to providing innovative solutions to the new challenges posed by the Internet of Things, and to steer the development of the Internet of Things in a fairer direction. As well as offering an important analysis of the potential for smart consumer laws in the Internet of Things, the book also provides important insights into the growing divergence between Germany's and the UK's consumer laws since Brexit. Since the end of the Second World War, restitution in Germany - Wiedergutmachung - has been mainly understood as part of state or private law. This book offers a different approach, arguing that authors and artists have also taken up a responsibility for restitution. Deploying the literal translation 'making-good-again', this book focuses on the 'making' of law, literature and visual art to argue that restitution is a practice which is found in different genres, sites and temporalities. The practices of restitution identified are dynamic, iterative and incomplete: they are practices of failure. Nevertheless, in this book, the question of how to conduct restitution emerges as a material question of responsibility asked through the making of texts and objects in different genres, including law. The resulting text is a unique expansion and re-conceptualisation of the practices of jurisprudence, restitution and responsibility in the context of the aftermath in Germany. The volume also explicitly invites critical reflection on, and problematisation of, the issues of line-drawing and boundary definition around notions of state and jurisdictional size.

The collection features contributions by scholars from a wide range of jurisdictions, living and working across the Global South and North, and includes attention to the constitutional experiences of small states and jurisdictions in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, the Caribbean and Oceania that have not received much coverage in the literature.
