Analytic Summary of The Wealth of Nations

Book II: Of the Nature, Accumulation, and Employment of Stock

Multiphysics: Advances and Applications

Thermoforming Modeling and Simulation: A Multiphysics Approach concentrates on the modeling and optimization of thermoforming, as well as identifying the structural behavior of thermoplastics used for thermoforming. The book demonstrates the expertise gained through industrial and academic projects in technical transfer. It also illustrates the research and development skills in experimental and numerical modeling of thermoforming. The problem of identifying laws of behavior from experimental data (rheological or mechanical tests in large deformations), using algorithms such as neural networks, is also addressed. Through its multiphysics content, this book is helpful for researchers, teachers and industrialists interested in new advances in thermoforming (characterization of materials, modeling and optimization).

This research monograph examines agricultural e-commerce in emerging economies as a problem of market design rather than technology adoption. It asks a single question: how is digital readiness converted into trusted, formal and scalable agricultural transactions?Kazakhstan serves as the primary case, combining substantial agricultural potential, long distances between producers and consumers, uneven regional development, strong digital infrastructure and active policy interest in platform-based market access. Drawing on fieldwork in Azerbaijan and Malaysia, the book compares three contrasting routes to the same problem: infrastructure-led and private, administration-led and public, and platform-led and public. The author argues that readiness is conjunctive - the weakest layer binds - and that the constraint which recurs across all three countries is organisational: the capacity to aggregate dispersed smallholder output into commercially transactable consignments. The book closes with a sequencing framework for policy. It will interest economists of emerging markets and the digital economy, agricultural economists, and policymakers working on digital trade and rural market development.Azamat Zhanseitov
is a researcher in Economics at Turan-Astana University and at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in Astana. His research investigates economic mechanisms for agricultural e-commerce, with particular attention to regional digital readiness, platform governance, institutional support, logistics, and farmer participation in digital marketplaces. His current research is connected with project AP26102757-KC-25, "Economic Mechanisms for Stimulating the Development of Agricultural E-Commerce in Kazakhstan," funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Future Ready Economies — Vol. 2

This book examines London’s eighteenth–century upholding trade. Primarily providing household furniture and upholstery goods and services at the beginning of the century, by mid-century upholders provided stylish and fashionable residential interior furnishings, funeral undertaking, and a secondary market for used household goods. Upholders were at the forefront of the development of Britain’s material culture, and were important contributors to London’s economic and social fabric. Providing context to the social and business lives of upholders, the author surveys key themes including apprenticeship, livery companies, empire, material culture, consumerism, taste and fashion, advertising, and credit. The book also explores how upholders came to dominate the funeral undertaking business, and integrated brokering, appraising, and auctioneering into their businesses.

Adapting to the economic changes and interior furnishing trends that took place in the first half of the eighteenth century, many upholders expanded their business lines. While consumer demand increased for household goods, so too did the widespread use of personal credit, which ultimately led to an increase in upholder bankruptcies after 1760. Through two case studies of financially successful upholders, the book sheds light on diverse topics such as the East India Company, banking, royal household tradesmen, and military contracting, to create an intricate understanding of their experiences. Offering new insights into the business, social, and personal lives of London’s upholders, this book demonstrates how they were instrumental in creating a new domestic commerce in eighteenth-century Britain.

Handbook of Development Economics

Handbook of Development Economics: Volume 6A

Springer Studies in Alternative Economics

What drives the long-term development of economies—and how does growth affect different segments of society?
This book redefines the theory of economic growth by moving beyond the traditional "average citizen" model. Instead, it introduces a dynamic framework that accounts for the diverse structure of real-world economies, dividing households into distinct groups based on income, consumption, and wealth.
Through rigorous modeling and analysis, the book explores how key factors—such as the economic growth rate and the return on capital—shape not only the overall trajectory of an economy but also the fortunes of its individual household groups. It demonstrates that when the return on capital exceeds the growth rate, wealth concentration intensifies—a finding that aligns with Thomas Piketty’s influential empirical research. This book will appeal to economists, policymakers, and anyone interested in the forces that shape prosperity and inequality in modern societies.

Exploring the 'Bhartiya' Model

India's Economic Evolution Towards Inclusive Development

Édition abrégée et présentée par Jean-Gustave Courcelle-Seneuil

Richesse des nations

The Second Republic is a comprehensive institutional blueprint for India's transition into a developed economy (Viksit Bharat) by 2047. In this book, Ghani, a former World Bank economist and a prominent voice in Indian developmental economics, moves beyond traditional policy debates to focus on the State capacity engine, with his most compelling diagnostic being the two-engine trap. Since the 1991 reforms, India has developed a high-performance private sector engine; however, this is tethered to an obsolete state engine, characterized by nineteenth-century colonial structures and twentieth-century socialist bureaucracy. To address this, India not only needs new laws but a 'Second Republic', a fundamental re-architecting of the state's core institutions to match the dynamism of its people.

The book introduces the 4F architecture--functions, finances, functionaries, and foundations--as the integrated mechanism for national renewal, analysing why previous reforms have often stalled. With themes including unlocking the gender dividend (Shakti Superpower), building a modern justice platform, and navigating the geoeconomic frontier of artificial intelligence and climate change, it focuses on the 'plumbing' of the nation: the courts, civil services, and digital systems. A manifesto for 2047, The Second Republic is a timely intervention, shifting the goalposts from 'growth at any cost' to 'growth through institutional excellence', making it an essential read for those trying to understand why India's path to $30 trillion requires more than just capital.

The Second Republic

** A Financial Times Best Summer Book of 2025** A sweeping history of capitalism as seen through the eyes of its fiercest critics At a time when we are faced with fundamental questions about the sustainability and morality of the economic system, Capitalism and Its Critics provides a kaleidoscopic history of global capitalism, from colonialism and the Industrial Revolution to the ecological crisis and artificial intelligence.John Cassidy adopts a bold new approach: he tells the story through the eyes of the system's critics. From eighteenth-century weavers who rebelled against early factory automation to Eric Williams's paradigm-changing work on slavery and capitalism, to the Latin American dependistas, the international Wages for Housework campaign of the 1970s, and the modern degrowth movement, this absorbing narrative traverses the globe. It looks at familiar figures - Smith, Marx, Luxemburg, Keynes, Polanyi - from a fresh perspective, but also focuses on many less familiar, including William Thompson, the Irish proto-socialist whose work influenced Marx; Flora Tristan, the French proponent of a universal labour union; John Hobson, the original theorist of imperialism; and J. C. Kumarappa, the Indian exponent of Gandhian economics.Blending biography, panoramic history, and lively exploration of economic theories, Capitalism and Its Critics illuminates the deep roots of many of the most urgent issues of our time.
