African Journal of Social Work Book 4

Volume 11 (2021)

Book 4 collects the six issues of 2021, a year shaped by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. A dedicated group of articles looks at the pandemic's effects on social work education, informal sector livelihoods, child welfare, older people, people with disabilities and national social policy in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria and Botswana. Social development is a strong thread. Contributors assess social investment programmes in Nigeria and the place of social research in transformative social policy. They also examine social entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods in response to the feminisation of poverty, and the effect of climate change on social development programmes. Other articles apply Ubuntu to corruption, institutional care and the sharing of tuberculosis medication. They also cover gender-based violence, social work regulation, family mediation, the Ulwaluko rite of passage and recovery after Cyclone Idai. The book is suited to students, researchers, policy makers and practitioners.
