This volume is a collection of Jota Ishikawa's past and recent research on strategic trade policy. Chapters one and two are concerned with technical matters when studying strategic trade policy rather than the analysis of strategic trade policy itself. The chapters particularly introduce an innovative method of illustrating the Cournot-oligopoly equilibrium and the Cournot-oligopsony equilibrium on the price-quantity plane. Chapter three surveys the pioneering work by James A Brander and Barbara J Spencer and examines several points that are often overlooked or misunderstood when discussing theoretical models of strategic trade policy. Chapters four through six deal with market integration through trade liberalization in the context of strategic trade policy. It is shown that trade liberalization may generate unexpected effects. Chapters seven through nine investigate trade costs and trade policies in the presence of firm heterogeneity. Implications obtained in these chapters are different from those in the Melitz model. Chapters 10 and 11 are concerned with information about strategic trade policies. In particular, these chapters study what information is needed when employing strategic trade policies. Chapters 12 through 15 explore strategic trade policies with intermediate inputs. As global value chains develop, it is becoming increasingly important to analyze trade policies in vertical market structures.

Die Autoren Lutz Göcke ist Professor für Digitales Management an der Hochschule Nordhausen sowie Initiator und Leiter des Studiengangs Digitales Produktmanagement (B.A.) und des Hochschulinkubator für Entrepreneurship (HIKE). Er lehrt und forscht zu digitalen Innovationen, Geschäftsmodellinnovationen und Corporate Entrepreneurship an der Hochschule Nordhausen und der Vietnamese-German University in Ho Chi Minh City. Vor seiner Berufung an die Hochschule Nordhausen war er mehrere Jahre als digitaler Produktmanager bei der Volkswagen AG tätig.
Michael Schultheiß ist VP Product &amp; Technology bei reMarkable AS in Oslo. Zuvor war er Senior Director Product Management bei der Unternehmensberatung McKinsey &amp; Company und entwickelte für Klienten aus unterschiedlichen Industrien und Regionen digitale Produkte und Produktorganisationen. Promises, Failures and Policies for Emerging Innovation Systems

International trade and public health have long been in tension, with intellectual property law partially to blame. Patent protections have created strong pharmaceutical monopolies, making medicines unaffordable in many countries, blocking access to healthcare, and disrupting global supply chains. Attempts to remedy these public health failures have largely been fractured, with stop-gap efforts failing to meaningfully resolve the structural issues at the intersection between access, innovation, and regulation. Rather than treating these areas as separate domains, this book advocates for a holistic regulatory approach that centers public health while recognizing the deep interconnections with IP and trade. The authors argue that advancing innovation and global development requires recalibrating legal and policy frameworks to prioritize global public health as a necessary foundational requirement for robust trade and development. Tracing the evolution of these tensions across six chapters, the book critiques current regulatory reform efforts and proposes principles for a new public health framework: a treaty that places health not in opposition to trade and IP, but firmly at the center.
