Wan Hai Lines

At the beginning, Wan Hai's business was mainly on the log transportation among Taiwan, Japan and the Southeast Asia. In 1976, in order to respond to the rapid development of international trade in the Asia Pacific area and the trend of international transportation containerization, Wan Hai has entered the business of fully-container vessel shipping. Wan Hai has more than 30 years of experience in shipping, this has made Wan Hai a leading container shipping company in Asia. More recently Wan Hai expanded its Asia shipping network to services to US, Middle East and Europe. But due to high fuel costs, Wan Hai began to cut back on some of its long range services. Wan Hai was founded by the Chen family in Taiwan. The family is now in its third generation. Recently, however, the family members have been under investigations in Taiwan by the Taiwanese courts and prosecutors for their roles in several high profile criminal cases that have attracted a significant level of publicity to this usually low profile family.
