Offering a bold critique of the limitations of the reparations and land back movements, When We Are Kin envisions a Black and Indigenous future rooted in real solidarity, a future that exists beyond the confines of the liberal imagination. 
 
Current advocates of reparations for slavery and land back often fail to scrutinize racial capitalism and settler colonialism, instead accepting that their destinies will be forever tied to US empire. But as scholar Kyle T. Mays insists in When We Are Kin, we can and should demand a kind of repair that goes beyond a white supremacist idea of what justice can be. 
 
In a series of short essays, Mays traces the history of alliances between Black and Indigenous movements; outlines the limitations of certain demands for reparations, including cash payments, that do not fundamentally critique racial-settler capitalism; and interrogates contemporary land back initiatives that displace Black residents. Along the way, he asks, What does solidarity look like between Black and Indigenous peoples in the United States? Can we find ways to co-belong and co-resist on Turtle Island? 
 
Drawing on the Anishinaabe philosophy of mino-bimaadiziwin (the good life), Mays argues that we can resist as kin only when we center the land in building our collective futures.

Economics is sold as pure and apolitical: scientific, neutral, exact. This urgent book exposes its true role: to convince us there's no alternative to capitalism. We live in a world dominated by the dogma that austerity is necessary, unemployment natural, endless wars inevitable and central banks all-powerful. For all their long histories, liberal parties win relatively little popular support in most of Western Europe. This book, however, highlights an influx of voters combining economically free-market and culturally cosmopolitan ('market cosmopolitan') policy preferences, and argues that liberal parties are uniquely well positioned to appeal to these voters, offering the potential for a sizeable increase in their electoral support. Combining voter- and expert-level data, Davenport shows that in ideological terms alone, the majority of liberal parties, termed 'social liberals', occupy more promising positions than any other group of parties due to their proximity to these market cosmopolitan voters. In practice, however, social liberals only win the support of a small proportion of these market cosmopolitans, who instead tend to vote for either conservative or social democratic parties. The fact that these voters overlook social liberals in favour of such ideologically diverse alternatives presents a clear puzzle which appears to run counter the accepted wisdom that voters support parties that best represent their own ideological positions. Having set out this puzzle, the book then moves on to set out a twofold explanation for it, highlighting both social liberals' negative non-ideological reputations and market cosmopolitans' pre-existing partisan loyalties. It concludes by noting that these voters retain the potential to reshape electoral politics in Western Europe, even if this potential has been as yet unfulfilled.

In the wake of Greece's 2008 economic collapse, African women in Athens navigated intensified discrimination shaped by the intersecting forces of gender, race and migration status. This feminist ethnography investigates how processes of racialization intersect with gender and migration status to produce complex forms of disadvantage. This book argues that gendered racialization renders these women not only invisible but also hyper-visible in stereotypical ways that heighten their exposure to discrimination and precarity. Through everyday survival tactics, home-making practices and collective mobilization, these women resist exclusion and marginalization. Acting individually and collectively, they work to improve material conditions and gain social intelligibility, ultimately challenging normative boundaries of belonging in contemporary Greece.
