Fola is a sorcerer from the City of the Wise, a utopia where magic flows freely and food is plentiful. All are welcome in Thaumadeny should they seek it out, though few believe it truly exists.

The rest of the world is not so lucky a place. Its broken kingdoms fight for status, safety and survival, and it is within this chaos that Fola is convinced she will find the answers she seeks, which might unlock the true secrets of the magic of the City she calls home.

Her quest will lead her into a haunted kingdom plagued by wraiths, entangle her in the mystery surrounding the death of a king, and lead her towards a girl with strange powers, guarded by someone stranger still - a grey man armed with a ghostwood blade.

There are more than answers to be unearthed at the end of Fola's search - and the fates of both the living and the dead might soon be in her hands.
