Pursuing a comparative approach, it explores various aspects of children’s rights as established in constitutional, civil, administrative and criminal law in the region, while also discussing emerging issues. The book shares unique insights into the challenges and progress specific to individual CEE countries, many of which have undergone significant political, social, and legal transformations in recent decades. The comparative analysis of practices and legal frameworks between Lithuania and other countries in the region and across various CEE countries is a key feature of the book. By comparing practices, case law and legal regulations across different CEE countries, it highlights both the diversity and the common challenges in the region. Moreover, such a comparative perspective is invaluable for policymakers, practitioners, and academics in terms of identifying best practices and learning from different countries’ experiences. The respective chapters offer evidence-based insights and recommendations to guide the development of more effective and rights-based approaches to child protection. While aiming to enhance awareness and understanding of children’s rights, the book also seeks to fill a gap in the literature by focusing on the CEE region, an area often underrepresented and overlooked in global discussions on children’s rights. This book explores the role of architectural design in Colombia’s peacebuilding process following the 2016 Peace Agreement between the national government and the FARC-EP guerrilla. It examines how architecture can act as a catalyst for social transformation, territorial belonging, and autonomy in rural communities historically affected by the conflict. Through a qualitative, multi-method approach grounded in participatory action research, the study develops a theoretical model of architectural design for transitions, applies it to case studies in San José del Guaviare—a region emblematic of Colombia’s post-conflict dynamics—and formulates practical design tools to support peacebuilding. By analyzing projects such as the Development Programs with Territorial Focus (PDET) and the Territorial Spaces for Training and Reincorporation (ETCR), the research identifies both achievements and challenges in the implementation of built interventions. The findings highlight that effective architecture for peace must transcend technical problem-solving to integrate localized, participatory, and adaptive practices that strengthen community agency and ensure the sustainability of peace initiatives. Ultimately, the book positions architecture as an essential instrument in Colombia’s transition toward peace, emphasizing the need for context-sensitive methodologies that interweave design, social justice, and the non-repetition of violence.

Adopting a multidisciplinary approach to climate adjudication, this book addresses how adjudicators decide cases by considering the influence of psychology, philosophy, legal education, film, literature, political economy, political ecology, judicial appointments, history, and climate science on their decision-making and ultimately on the (inconsistent) outcomes in climate cases. Corruption and anti-corruption have long been central public concerns in China, yet the organizational mechanisms through which corruption and anti-corruption operate remain poorly understood. This book takes bribery-offering by unit as its analytical entry point and combines a systematic analysis of 3,886 publicly released court records with in-depth interviews with judges, prosecutors, disciplinary and supervisory officials, and lawyers.
Focusing on visible court records, the book shows how corruption is produced and normalized at the organizational level, moving beyond explanations that reduce bribery to individual moral failure or market exchange. It introduces the perspective of “invisible corruption” to explore why certain bribery practices never enter judicial proceedings. By reconstructing the cognitive frameworks and professional reasoning of legal practitioners, it analyzes how organizational bribery is understood, categorized, and processed in judicial practice, and how legal decision-making is shaped by institutional constraints, political pressures, and organizational contexts. Situated at the intersection of sociology of law, organizational studies, and corruption research, this book offers new empirical and theoretical insights into China’s anti-corruption system.
