The questions posed by disability studies scholarship are increasingly of interest to medieval studies scholars and there have been a wealth of books published on the intersection of these two fields of research over the past two decades. More recently, medieval scholars have developed a framework for considering more specifically medieval ways of thinking about disability, analyzing the medieval conception of the different or 'othered' body and thinking through 'medieval things': such as the responses to injury and resulting impairment in contemporary law, literature, and art; the impaired body as a site for miraculous transformation; the presence of physical and mental difference in different cultural modes than exist in the modern world; and the role of theosophical thought in characterizing difference. This is the first volume to survey this field as a whole, bringing together the most notable scholars in the field alongside up-and-coming academics, to analyse recent studies and to suggest directions for future research. Chapters are organized into four categories that treat broadly the current questions of the field as they apply to each contributor's area of expertise: Articulations of Difference; Critical Perspectives; Traditions of Medieval Thought; and Disability and Material Cultures. Each category is introduced by a leading figure in the field, and the volume is concluded with an Afterword.

This book convincingly argues that the early medieval kingdom of Northumbria existed as a single political entity with a shared culture. Sián Webb makes the case that, while the kingdom itself includes three major cultural regions with distinct identities, by studying the similarities and differences in material and artistic culture it can be demonstrated that these identities managed to exist in tandem and were taken up by communities and groups when necessary and convenient. Webb shines a light on how the individual regions possessed different histories that helped shape how the people and communities expressed the shared Northumbrian identity.

Focusing on the period from 600 CE to 867 CE, Material Culture, Communities and Identity in Early Medieval Northumbria builds upon the developing tradition of research into layered identities and group culture established in various academic disciplines. The purpose here is to consider the different identities and cultural differences that developed in different regions and among different hierarchical communities from those in power to the less influential, though no less interesting or important, individuals whose work both allowed their communities to function and helped drive, adapt and spread new cultural traditions. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the book broadens the view of early medieval Northumbria beyond the high-status settlements and people and, where possible, uses material culture and archaeological sources to include texture of non-elite identities within the kingdom.

Part of the market-leading Landmark Cases series, this book brings together leading experts in company law to analyse the the landmark cases in company law which have shaped and defined the field. Drawing on a range of diverse methods and a multi-disciplinary orientation, the book explains the past, present, and future of company law as well as its shape, structure, and trajectory. Company law is now understood to be a creature of statute law. The Companies Act of 2006 is a monumental piece of legislative work. Cases, however, played a central role in creating, establishing, and influencing legal ideas that were later enshrined within pieces of legislation. To identify the landmark cases in company law, the book develops an original, democratic, and objective method. It undertakes a citation analysis of cases used by 5 leading English company law textbooks. Highly cited cases are widely understood to be central to the company law curriculum. Once these cases have been identified, they are examined by leading scholars in company law. The analysis that follows sheds some much needed light on how, why, and when historic rules came into being. This contextual analysis is missing from the original law reports as well as the legislation that we see in operation today. It follows that these novel accounts of the roots of company law push beyond a simplistic narration of the case and proffer a new explanation for why legal rules took the shape that they did. Other archaeological studies also provide a fresh account of the case. Such an excavation informs the reader about legal advisors or the parties in the suit to explain why the litigation arose in this particular way, manner, or form.

Landmark Cases in Company Law

In 1946 and 1948, James Conway Davies published volumes one and two of his Episcopal Acts and Cognate Documents Relating to Welsh Dioceses 1066-1272. A notice in the front of volume two indicates that volume three - promised for publication in 1950/1 but never released - would have contained inter alia the acts of the dioceses of Bangor and St Asaph and an index of the acts contained in all three volumes. The editor left behind a massive card index and the galley proofs of the acts of St Asaph and Bangor, and it is these that form the basis of the present volume. It therefore completes what is both a monumental study on and source of information for the Church in medieval Wales.
