Simone de Beauvoir (1908-1986) hat die Verlogenheit des Mythos vom Ewigweiblichen erkannt, Ehe und Mutterschaft als Frauenfalle entlarvt. Zeitlebens hat sie für die Gleichberechtigung der Frauen gekämpft, obwohl sie eine der wenigen privilegierten Frauen ihrer Zeit war, die studieren, arbeiten und ein Leben nach ihrer Façon leben konnte. Ihr Buch "Das andere Geschlecht" schlug 1949 wie ein Blitz ein. Es konfrontierte, provozierte und irritierte Männer wie Frauen weltweit: Und es enthielt den legendären Slogan "Man kommt nicht als Frau zur Welt, man wird es".
Unermüdlich setzte sich de Beauvoir für die gesellschaftliche Teilhabe der Ausgegrenzten ein - noch einmal 1970 mit ihrem Monumentalwerk "Das Alter" für die betagten Menschen. Sie wurde nicht müde, einen menschenwürdigen Umgang mit allen Menschen zu fordern.

Ihre philosophischen Schriften stehen zu Unrecht im Schatten ihres Begleiters Jean-Paul Sartre: In ihren Essays "Pyrrhus und Cinéas" und "Für eine Moral der Doppelsinnigkeit" gelang es ihr, eine Ethik des Existentialismus zu entwerfen, die Sartre zwar in Aussicht gestellt, aber niemals vorgelegt hat.

In The Philosophy of Language in Islamic Legal Theory Nora Kalbarczyk examines the influential jurisprudential work al-Maḥṣūl fī ʿilm uṣūl al-fiqh (d. 1210). By means of a detailed analysis of the linguistic treatise of this work she highlights the impact of the philosophical tradition on Islamic legal theory (uṣūl al-fiqh) in the so-called post-Avicennian era (11th-14th c.). Her main focus lies on a classification of signification (dalāla) that can be traced back to Ibn Sīnā (lat. Avicenna, d. 1037): a word may signify a meaning by way of congruence (muṭābaqa), containment (taḍammun) or implication (iltizām). The author shows how Faḫr ad-dīn ar-Rāzī develops - on the basis of the Avicennian theory of signification - a hermeneutic toolbox which is not only relevant in the context of Arabic philosophy but also useful for different questions of Islamic legal theory.
