Das Handbuch gibt einen systematischen Überblick über Ausmaß, Ursachen und Folgen von Bildungsarmut und erörtert Strategien, wie Bildungsarmut schrittweise abgebaut werden kann. Für Soziologie, Pädagogik und Politik bündelt es die Forschungsergebnisse aus groß angelegten internationalen und nationalen Erhebungen ebenso wie aus kleineren, explorativen Studien.Die Ergebnisse zeigen: Gerade weil die Gesellschaft immer „gebildeter“ wird, sind Menschen ohne einen Mindestgrad an Bildung zunehmend von der Exklusion aus zentralen gesellschaftlichen Bereichen bedroht. Das Risiko steigt, den eigenen Lebensunterhalt nicht bestreiten zu können und soziale Anerkennung und Teilhabe zu verlieren. Hiervon sind – je nach angelegtem Kriterium – etwa 5 bis 15 Prozent der Bevölkerung betroffen. Das Handbuch bietet eine Orientierungshilfe, an welchen Stellen gesellschaftspolitischer Handlungsbedarf besteht oder weitere Forschung nötig ist. Prof. Dr. Gina Rosa Wollinger ist Professorin an der Hochschule für Polizei und öffentliche Verwaltung NRW und lehrt dort Soziologie und Kriminologie. Sie ist im wissenschaftlichen Beirat des Deutschen Präventionstags, des Bundeskriminalamts und des WEISSEN RINGS.

Prof. Dr. Ulrike Zähringer ist Professorin für Kriminologie und Strafrecht an der Hochschule in der Akademie der Polizei Hamburg. Sie ist Mitglied des Forschungsbeirats des Bundeskriminalamts.

Kaum ein Thema innerhalb der medienkulturwissenschaftlichen Lehre ist derart beliebt wie dasjenige der Medienästhetik - und zugleich in hohem Maße 'unsicher'. Denn es ist längst noch nicht klar, was überhaupt unter 'Medienästhetik' zu verstehen ist, was jene bedeutet, was sie will und was sie erfordert bzw. welche Zugriffe und Erklärungen sowohl insgesamt wie exemplarisch für das Studium der Medien mit ihr vermittelt und erlernt werden können.
