"The new edition of Small Animal Toxicology Essentials updates veterinary technicians with the newest toxicologic information necessary to evaluate the urgency of calls related to exposure of pets to potential poisons, to provide initial triage of cases, to provide guidelines for collection of samples for diagnostic purposes and for instituting appropriate nursing care. The team nature of veterinary medicine will be emphasized through discussion of clinical signs, differential diagnoses, obtaining a minimum database, laboratory sample collection and confirmatory testing, and case management recommendations. This provides the basis for a veterinary technician to anticipate what the veterinarian needs for proper patient evaluation, monitoring and treatment. While nursing care for each toxicant is highlighted, there is little emphasis on mechanisms of toxic action.
