Shifting Paradigms in Collective Violence

From Individualism to Hybridization

Inhalt

The study of the phenomenon of collective violence as situated within the broad, interdisciplinary field of international criminal justice, is largely underpinned by individualistic theories of crime that focus on the self-interested individual as the central unit of action. Shifting Paradigms in Collective Violence also considers the alternative collectivist approach, which shifts social identity from the self to the collective, thereby creating a cooperative orientation within the group. Olusanya explores the shortcomings of the individualistic and collectivist models of collective violence, and proposes a groundbreaking hybridization model. This model seeks to bridge the gap between the rival schools of thought, and offers a framework for comparing the effectiveness of different strategies for prosecuting large-scale crimes.
