The work of Theodoros Metochites was assessed differently by contemporaries and modern scholars alike. This volume presents a further part of his paraphrases of Aristotle's writings on natural philosophy in a critical edition, most of them as editio princeps. In addition to the paraphrases of the Parva naturalia, those of the writings De motu animalium and De incessu animalium are also included. The edition is accompanied by a German translation and an introduction.
The edition of several smaller treatises makes it possible to compare the various treatises to see how Metochites paraphrases Aristotle's text and refers to earlier commentaries. The book also identifies the issues on which he omits details from his originals, makes additions or sets other emphases. The book thus provides a building block for understanding both the works of Theodoros Metochites and Byzantine Aristotle's reception and philosophy.
