1971, kaum ein Jahr nach Gründung der linksterroristischen RAF, mutmaßte der spätere Verfassungsschutz-Präsident Günther Nollau, dass es sich bei der Gruppierung um einen "Exzeß der Befreiung der Frau" handle. Bald darauf griffen zahlreiche Zeitgenossen diesen Verdacht auf und überführten ihn im Laufe der 1970er Jahre in eine wissenschaftlich wie medial gestützte Anklage gegen den Feminismus, dem moralische Schuld an der politischen Gewalt attestiert wurde. Die Studie analysiert erstmalig den geteilten Vorlauf des Linksterrorismus und der Neuen Frauenbewegung im Protestmilieu der 1960er Jahre, auf den sich die Vertreter des antifeministischen Einwands teils stützten. Sie rekonstruiert die Entwicklung der sogenannten "Emanzipationshypothese", befasst sich mit den Reaktionen der Gemeinten hierauf und klärt schließlich, weshalb dieser Vorwurf 1982 abrupt endete. Damit leistet die Arbeit einen doppelten Beitrag sowohl zur Geschichte der RAF wie auch zur westdeutschen Feminismushistorie.

The full texts of both 1680 editions of Elizabeth Cary's History of Edward II are here reproduced completely, along with an extensive introduction including biographical, cultural, and literary commentary on Elizabeth Cary, and also background on the debate surrounding the texts' authorship. This volume will be of interest to literary scholars working on Early Modern women as well as to historians and queer theorists, both of whom have made Edward II an important intellectual site in the last generation of scholarship.

The full texts of both 1680 editions of Elizabeth Cary's History of Edward II are here reproduced completely, along with an extensive introduction including biographical, cultural, and literary commentary on Elizabeth Cary, and also background on the debate surrounding the texts' authorship. In the recovery of women writers of early modern England, Elizabeth Tanfield Cary, Viscountess Falkland, has drawn substantial interest. Swan examines the post-publication history of both 1680 editions, revealing how the many hands at work in various subsequent editions have resulted in the obfuscation of the textual history, which has, in the past, led to the misattribution of the history to Henry Cary, Elizabeth's husband.  The reproduction of both versions allows scholars to easily compare the two, which is important in order to understand Cary's reworking of her text from early to late drafts. Both versions represent intentions and socially received states which are useful in presenting the text, in documenting Cary's changing attitudes and discursive strategies in the mid-1620's-the period of composition for all the manuscript states and a period of particular biographical significance-and in accounting for the more recent reception of the history.   Swan showcases here how Cary contributes significantly both to the development of resistance theory (essential to democratic-republican ideals at the root of Anglo-American politics and government), and to the development of non-fiction prose style in English. This volume will be of interest to literary scholars working on Early Modern women as well as to historians and queer theorists, both of whom have made Edward II an important intellectual site in the last generation of scholarship.

Metafiction, the practice in fictional texts of displaying an awareness of their fictional status, highlighting it, or even exploring it after the manner of literary criticism, existed in ancient Greek and Roman literature. This book demonstrates by cumulative weight of examples the existence of metafiction in classical literature, and in so doing constitutes an 'archaeology' of the origins of metafiction in Western literature. Author Owen Hodkinson engages with a wide range of approaches to fiction and metafiction, and explores detailed examples or case studies from ancient texts. This book provides for the first time for classical and modern literature scholars a full definition of metafiction which uses the earliest metafictional texts in western literature as its examples rather than only modern novels, and the first general but detailed and theoretically-grounded discussion and definition of metafiction aimed at scholars and students of classical literature.

In the wake of the global financial crisis, governments in many countries have imposed widespread cuts in public expenditure and social rights, some of which have been so dramatic that they have been described as 'austericide'. This book explores the financial crisis and the policies implemented in response to it in terms of the differences in the ways in which women and men have been affected by it, using an approach which combines feminist economics and a political economy framework. The book's aim is to question conventional economic theories in order to present more critical and realistic policy approaches.
