The studies on the “Introduction to Aesthetics” collected in this volume attempt to read Jean Paul’s theoretical oeuvre as the first and perhaps only theory prose in aesthetic history. The multitude of theoretical components – aesthetic theory, historical philosophy, novel theory, rhetoric, style theory, and literary criticism – produce a surprisingly strong systematization.
