Inhalt:
Schaf Wolle lebt in einer Herde bei den Klippen nah am Meer. Doch es gibt ein Problem: Wolle hat Angst vor der Schur. Die anderen Schafe machen sich darüber lustig, aber Wolles Angst ist so groß, dass er in den Wald flieht. Doch das erweist sich schnell als schlechte Idee, denn Wolle wird beinahe vom Wolf verspeist. Nur das beherzte Eingreifen des ortsansässigen Eichhörnchens Quaste kann das Unheil im letzten Moment verhindern. Für Quaste ist klar: Wolle muss zurück auf die Weide. Für Wolle ist klar: Er bleibt im Wald. Das Schaf setzt sich durch, und Quaste hilft Wolle, im Wald klarzukommen. Zunächst scheint alles perfekt, doch mit der Zeit zeigt sich ein Problem: Wolles Fell wächst und wächst, bis er kaum noch laufen und fressen kann. Doch die Angst davor, geschoren zu werden, ist noch immer da und Wolle weiß schließlich nicht mehr weiter. Da beobachtet er aus der Ferne, wie sich der Wolf an seine Herde heranschleicht. Jetzt gibt es für Wolle kein Halten mehr: Als riesiger Wollball, der er geworden ist, kugelt sich Wolle zurück zu seiner Herde, um sie vor dem Wolf zu retten - was ihm mit Hilfe seines immensen Fells auch gelingt.

Botschaft:
Im Musical geht es um Freundschaft und Zusammenhalt, und dass es sich lohnt, seine Ängste zu überwinden und neue Wege auszuprobieren.

Musik und Text:
Die ganze Handlung wird von der Musik getragen. Auch die meisten Dialoge finden innerhalb der Musikstücke statt. Die Musik ist eingängig, abwechslungsreich und energiegeladen. Stilistisch bewegt sie sich zwischen Folk, Funk, Rock und Jazz. Die zwei Chorgruppen übernehmen verschiedene Rollen, u.a. die der Schafherde und die Erzähler*innen-Rolle.

Der große Gatsby

Das Trio-Debüt des Pianisten, Komponisten und 2025 mit dem MacArthur Fellowship ausgezeichneten Craig Taborn an der Seite von Tomeka Reid und Ches Smith wurde mit großer Spannung erwartet. In seiner Besprechung des Live-Auftritts der Gruppe im Herbst 2025 schwärmte das Hamburger Abendblatt, dass sie 'allesamt zur Speerspitze der US-amerikanischen Jazz-Avantgarde' gehörten und betonte, dass ihre Darbietung über einen strikten Jazz-Kontext hinausgeht: 'Das ist eher 'Neue Musik' - unberechenbar, aufregend und so ganz und gar nicht eingängig.' In der Tat ist der Ansatz des Trios auf Dream Archives eher von zerebraler Natur, doch wie der Titel vermuten lässt, wird ein breites musikalisches Spektrum abgedeckt: zahlreiche Idiome werden aus der Musikgeschichte entnommen und neu konfiguriert, wodurch eine zuvor ungehörte Klangwelt voller Reverien entsteht. Tänzerische Grooves und kraftvolle lyrische Passagen werden aus dicht orchestrierten Trio-Interaktionen herausgehoben, wobei vier ausgedehnte Taborn-Stücke das Fundament bilden. Mit den Trio-Adaptionen von Paul Motians 'Mumbo Jumbo' und Geri Allens 'When Kabuya Dances' werden zwei von Craigs wichtigsten Vorbildern auf meisterhafte Weise geehrt. Tomeka am Cello jongliert einerseits mit melodischer Führung, andererseits mit einem pizzicato Bassfundament, das sich - oft widerspenstig - mit Ches Smiths vielseitigem Instrumentenarsenal und Craigs umfassendem Verständnis der Klaviatur verbindet.

In Chasin' the Sound: Learning Jazz Improvisation through Historical Models, authors Brian Levy and Keith Waters use solos by famous jazz musicians to outline a melodic and rhythmic vocabulary of jazz improvisation. In contrast to mainstream approaches based on rote memorization and generic chord/scale pedagogies, Chasin' the Sound encourages hands-on learning with activities that highlight the intangible yet key aesthetics of sound, groove, and feel.
