An Evolving Record

This centennial history of the Economic Society of Australia describes how the Society has evolved since 1925 against a background of rapidly changing trends in the Australian economics profession and profound developments in the Australian economy. It also addresses the Society's challenges in light of financial strictures, a variable membership base, the splintering of participation since the 1980s, and now the internationalisation of the Australian university economics profession. The Society has addressed its long-term gender imbalance with the creation of a highly successful Women in Economics Network, and it continues to evolve using new technologies to replace older models of professional publishing and communication.
