A Catalogue of Rare Dutch Pamphlets Relating to New-Netherland and to the Dutch West- and East-India Companies and to its Possessions in Brazil / Ango

How Harvard College looked, from its beginnings to 1860, is shown in this collection of views, many heretofore unpublished, of its buildings and grounds. These lithographs, watercolors, charcoal drawings, and engravings on copper, steel, and wood include works by Paul Revere, Justice Joseph Story, and Jonathan Fisher. The accompanying text describes the changing scene and the buildings as they appear, and gives a description of all known Harvard views prior to the age of photography. This is an interesting book for anyone interested in early New England buildings, as well as for bibliophiles and collectors of prints.

This study centers on the Dutch Republic, where Roman law-applied alongside contemporary legislation-was used to regulate the lives of enslaved individuals across its territories, albeit in a highly selective manner. Which provisions of Roman law were implemented, and what led to the exclusion of others? This book investigates these questions through a historical analysis of the legal transfer of Roman law within both the metropole and the colonies. Special attention is given to the private law governing enslaved persons in the Dutch Republic and its overseas territories, including the WIC¿administered islands of Curaçao, Aruba, and Bonaire, the Sociëteit van Suriname, and the VOC¿controlled Cape Colony. The 2012 BellagiöHarvard Guidelines on the Legal Parameters of Slavery identify legal institutions grounded in the notion of ownership, providing a valuable framework for legal¿historical research on slavery.

Aside from a few famous examples, however, we are only at the beginning of exploring the diversity of Jewish dealers' commercial and cultural worlds, and reflecting on the particular conditions that made possible their dramatic expansion within the profession. This contributed volume takes a country-driven assessment of efforts to implement the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). AfCFTA is, arguably, the most prominent attempt to galvanize the continent into political and economic integration in its history. &nbsp;The AfCFTA promises to be the largest free trade area in the world based on the number of participating countries, and forecasts of its impact demonstrate that AfCFTA is potentially the most powerful instrument to significantly alter the socio-politico and economic status of Africa as a whole and place the continent on the power map of the world.&nbsp;In spite of this laudable and promising opportunity for African growth, the implementation of the AfCFTA has been slow as of this book’s writing. It is important to undertake a comprehensive review of the implementation of the AfCFTA, in order to appraise the prevailing teething problems experienced across selected countries. Although the AfCFTA remains a continental initiative, the speed, political will, and achievements of the implementation process is largely country-driven.&nbsp;The country-specific review of the implementation processes of the AfCFTA presented in this book highlights context-specific dynamics, identifying best practices, understanding implementation challenges, tailoring support mechanisms, and facilitating peer learning amongst implementing countries.
