In Shakespeare, memory, and modern Irish literature, Nicholas Taylor-Collins charts the ways that the modern Irish nation is underwritten by Irish writers whose own cultural agency is improved by their engagement with William Shakespeare. Through a wide-ranging theoretical approach, Taylor-Collins privileges forms of intertextual memory that avoid the obvious quotation or explicit reference: this innovating proposal for a 'dismemorial' intertextuality allows readers to read both Shakespeare and the Irish writers with renewed understanding of their craft. Inhalt und Botschaft:
Shakespeares "Was ihr wollt" ist ein zeitloser und altersunabhängiger Klassiker des Theaterrepertoires. Nun hat der Komponist und Jazzpianist Daniel Stickan aus dem Stoff ein Musical komponiert. Die erste Inszenierung am Theater Lüneburg war ausschließlich mit jugendlichen Darsteller*innen besetzt und ein absoluter Publikumsrenner!

Die Handlung bleibt ganz nah am Shakespeare'schen Original: In Illyrien, da dreht sich alles um die Liebe, so scheint es. Ganz schön verwirrend, nicht nur, weil sich hier mitunter Frauen, die von Männern gespielt werden, als Männer verkleiden, die Frauen spielen. Oder so ähnlich. Shakespeare stellt heute höchst aktuelle Fragen nach Identität und Begehren, nach Lust und Sehnsucht und nach der Auflösung allzu eindeutiger Geschlechterrollen. Er lässt Grenzen verschwimmen und öffnet (Spiel-)Räume. Wenn wir von Liebe sprechen, meinen wir dann in erster Linie uns selbst oder unser Gegenüber? Die Protagonist*innen begeben sich auf eine Entdeckungsreise. Das Ergebnis ist ein höchst unterhaltsames junges Musical mit Tiefgang: Schließlich ist wahrer Humor nie ohne eine gewisse Portion Ernsthaftigkeit zu haben

Daniel Stickans Musik ist gekennzeichnet von einer fantasievollen, sehr persönlichen Klangfarbe, die anspruchsvolle Popmusik mit Jazzeinflüssen und Ohrwürmern bietet. Die Stimmumfänge sind einem jugendlichen Ensemble (ab 14 Jahren) auf den Leib geschrieben. Gesangs- und Schauspielerfahrung sind von Vorteil. Das Musical erscheint in zwei Fassungen: Original mit großem Instrumentalensemble und in einer reduzierten Fassung ohne Bläser (i.V.).
