Understanding China

This book absorbs the experience and wisdom of the application of evidence in judicial practice, explains the principles of evidence law with the help of Chinese and foreign classic evidence cases, and interprets the evidence system and rules of interpretation of evidence. In the arrangement of style, this book adopts the heuristic paradigm of linking cases and questions, which can improve students’ awareness of evidence issues. In the selection of typical evidence cases, this book highlights the application skills of evidence rules through controversial cases. In the explanation of the rules of evidence, this book can improve students’ ethical thinking of using evidence to identify facts with the help of fresh and meaningful classic cases. This book also takes into account the characteristics of the evidence rules of administrative law enforcement, arbitration and discipline inspection and supervision, and interprets the common issues of evidence from the basic knowledge, basic principles and basic systems of evidence law. A key creative contribution is the concept of the&nbsp;gendered border.&nbsp;The author argues that international boundaries, such as the Radcliffe Line, are not merely political abstractions but are 'inscribed on the bodies' of impoverished women who cross them in search of survival, only to be met with institutional apathy. This book investigates the experiences of women inmates in Alipore Women’s Correctional Home and Dum Dum Central Correctional Home in West Bengal, India. It explores their socio-economic background, the major factors that led to their incarceration, the nature of their crimes, the problems that women inmates and their children face inside the correctional homes, and their dealings with the judiciary.
Using a mixed methods framework, this volume helps us to understand how multiple hegemonies can affect the offence done by a particular woman. Through inmate interviews, this book provides a window into their struggles and decisions. The narratives contain rich information on their motives and ‘modus operandi’ and produce data on how the ‘self’ is constructed by reflecting upon the complex nature of values, identities, cultures and communities of the inmates. The analytical framework further challenges positivism in contemporary criminology. Advancing feminist criminological agendas, this book aims to help influence the creation and implementation of public policy to improve the conditions of female inmates in correctional homes in countries like India.

It evaluates the rise of the World Wide Web and the model of cybercrime, questions whether existing criminological thought offers relevance and efficacy in current circumstances, conditions and future predictions, and revisits the concept of Relative Deprivation and&nbsp;the underpinning social psychological and socio-political foundations of it. It argues that&nbsp;Relative Deprivation&nbsp;allied to post-industrial precarity provides a central platform for understanding crime and deviance in a hyper-connected and hyper-commercial neoliberal world.&nbsp;The book develops to explore current criminological and security conceptions of artificial intelligence, big data, crime and social control, as well as hacktivism, and how opportunities for crime have become ‘democratised’ and expanded through the Web.
