What does feminist filmmaking in the 21st century look like? This book assesses the influence of Western feminist theory on contemporary film and television - nearly fifty years after Claire Johnston and Laura Mulvey called for a feminist counter-cinema - highlighting the cross-fertilization between feminist film theory and practice. Is there a #Metoo genre? Have traditional Hollywood genres been reframed? How has intersectional feminist film theory been explored on screen? In essays spanning film and television in a broad range of genres from the US, the UK and India, contributors renew definitions of feminist filmmaking since second wave feminist film scholars first grappled with the image of women in film and the role of women in the film industry. Nicht erst seit der Transformation der politischen Systeme in Osteuropa wird dem schon in den 1950er Jahren entwickeltem Ansatz der politischen Kulturforschung wieder größere Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Seine zentrale Frage richtet sich auf die Herstellung und Bedingungen der Stabilität eines politischen Systems. Neuere Betrachtungen implizieren die Integration der politischen Kulturforschung in die Überlegungen der vergleichenden empirischen Demokratieforschung als eine grundsätzlich Staaten und Regionen vergleichende Form der Analyse. Sie besitzt somit eine methodische, aber auch inhaltliche Breite wie kaum ein anderer politikwissenschaftlicher Forschungsansatz. Die Zielstellung der Vorgehensweise politischer Kulturforschung bezieht sich vor allem auf die subjektiven Einstellungen der Bevölkerung, welche der Grundpfeiler für die zukünftige Konsolidierung, Akzeptanz und Aufrechterhaltung der existierenden Staatsformen, aber auch der Demokratie als Konzept an sich sind. Das vorliegende Buch schafft durch die Integration der theoretischen Grundprämissen des Ansatzes der politischen Kulturforschung, der Darstellung seiner Einbindung in die international vergleichende Demokratieforschung, dem Aufzeigen seines methodischen Vorgehens und der Explikation der wichtigsten internationalen Vergleichsergebnisse eine breit gefächerte Diskussionsgrundlage für Forschung und Lehre.¿

Politische Kulturforschung

Patipolitics looks at what it means to enjoy the body under technocapitalism arguing that we need a new paradigm to talk about sexual enjoyment and suffering. It is not just biological life (biopolitics), nor even political death (necropolitics) that has power, but also regimes of enjoyment. In simple terms the paradoxical, ambivalent and traumatic realm of the sexual: a deadly enjoyment that demands satisfaction yet cannot be sated. This is Patipolitics, from the Latin patior- to suffer, which for psychoanalysis is also to enjoy.

The body is governed by a dizzying array of institutions: the family, social media, religion and the culture industries. These sites provide contexts for enjoying the body such as: self-image, object choice, identification, erogenous zones, taboos, codes of sexual morality, inhibitions, violence, and bodily abjection. But it is the ways in which these modalities are harnessed by apparatuses of power which makes them patipolitical.

Patipolitics examines how the body is instrumentalised, weaponised and fantasized through science, technology and capitalism. After highlighting the destructive and oppressive elements of patipolitics, the book elucidates the positive and generative dimensions to the patipolitical. The female body and its place in the masculine imaginary obscures a genuine enigma about the sexual body and power. Ultimately if patipolitics is to be affirmative as opposed to destructive we must ask what alternative future it can help us to imagine?
