Prospecting, Locating and Valuing Mines

Im 18. Jahrhundert kam es in der Markgrafschaft Baden zu den letzten größeren Bemühungen, den Bergbau auf Blei-Silber-Erze zu reaktivieren. Auf Initiative der Markgrafen wurden viele alte Gruben neu untersucht und teilweise in Abbau genommen. 
Das vorliegende Buch entwirft ein umfassendes Bild der Organisation des Bergbaus im badischen Schwarzwald, stellt die beteiligten Personen vor und beschreibt eingehend die Chroniken der Gruben während ihres Betriebs im 18. und frühen 19. Jahrhundert. 
Die vorgestellten Informationen basieren fast ausschließlich auf der erneuten Bearbeitung zeitgenössischer Quellen, wobei zahlreiche bislang übersehene Daten zur Technikgeschichte des Südschwarzwälder Bergbaus und der Lebenssituation der dort tätigen Bergleute gewonnen werden konnten.
