Unser Leben hat seit über einem Jahrhundert seine innere Bedeutung verloren. An ihre Stelle ist das Geld getreten - zur neuen Maxime erhoben, verleiht es einem inhaltsleeren Dasein scheinbar Sinn. Die Gier Einzelner, deren krankhafte Sucht nach Reichtum und Macht durch das darwinistische Narrativ als "natürlich" legitimiert wird, ist in der westlichen Gesellschaft zum dominanten Antrieb geworden. Über das Bildungssystem werden diese Denkweisen weitergegeben, reproduziert und verfestigt. Diese Verschiebung ist kein Zufall, sondern Ausdruck eines Wirtschaftssystems, das auf Konsum, Wachstum und Profit basiert. Doch diese Lebensweise zehrt an der Seele. 
In ihrem neuesten Buch entlarvt Miryam Muhm den modernen Turbokapitalismus als ein System, das nicht Wohlstand für alle generiert, sondern bei vielen Krankheit erzeugt. Immer mehr Menschen leiden unter Depressionen, Angstzuständen und innerer Leere - selbst Superreiche wie Bill Gates und Elon Musk sind davor nicht geschützt. Was als Weg zum Glück verkauft wird, entpuppt sich als raffinierte Illusion: Die Vorstellung, Geld und Konsum könnten allein Zufriedenheit schaffen, ist eine vom System eingeimpfte Lüge, die sich tief in unser Denken eingebrannt hat.
Miryam Muhm macht deutlich, dass der westliche Kapitalismus nicht nur soziale Ungleichheit, sondern auch psychisches Leid hervorbringt. Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert wird er mit einem Missverständnis von Darwins Evolutionstheorie gerechtfertigt: dem berühmten survival of the fittest. Doch die moderne Evolutionsbiologie zeigt klar, dass nicht Konkurrenz, sondern vielmehr Kooperation das Fundament der Entwicklung des Lebens ist. Damit verliert der Kapitalismus seine angeblich naturgegebene Legitimation. Diese neue Evolutionstheorie könnte einen Paradigmenwechsel einleiten, der es ermöglicht, eine alternative ökonomische Theorie zu entwickeln - eine, die sich an gerechteren Maßstäben orientiert und den Menschen ein besseres Leben ermöglicht als der derzeit vorherrschende Neoliberalismus.
"Reichtum essen Seele auf" ist ein Weckruf und zugleich eine Einladung zum Umdenken. Miryam Muhm zeigt, wie dringend wir unser Wirtschafts- und Wertesystem verändern müssen, um nicht nur die Seele des Einzelnen, sondern auch die Zukunft unserer Gesellschaft zu retten.

Die Public Health Humanities verstehen Gesundheit und Krankheit als kulturell und sozial geprägte Phänomene. Sie ergänzen die empirisch orientierte Multidisziplin Public Health um geisteswissenschaftliche und künstlerische Perspektiven. Dabei fragen sie nach der Bedeutung des Künstlerischen für die Gesundheit, interessieren sich für moralische, soziale und kulturelle Dimensionen von Gesundheit und Krankheit in Kunst bzw. Medien und bieten theoretische Zugänge für gesundheitliche Analysen an. Bezugsdisziplinen sind u.a. Kunst-, Kultur- und Medienwissenschaften, Philosophie und Geschichte. Die Beiträger*innen leuchten das Spektrum unterschiedlicher Perspektiven und Zugänge der Public Health Humanities erstmals auf Deutsch aus.

This book addresses the various challenges that arose during the two periods of Indonesian President Jokowi's administration. Joko Widodo's Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Legacy

The Filthiest Village in Europe traces how a community shrouded by "industrial fog," at the brink of gaping coal pits, became a symbol that galvanized grassroots ecology – campaigns by diverse local actors that exposed environmental and economic crises East Germany's political system could not resolve. Notoriously known by the late 1980s as "the filthiest village in Europe," Mölbis suffocated downwind from the massively polluting carbochemical Espenhain plant. Applying a myriad of private collections, interviews, and untapped archival sources, Andrew Demshuk reveals how pastors, parents, officials, inspectors, workers, and spies negotiated ossified party structures whose inability to reform was showcased by ever-worsening environmental conditions. After peaceful protests a few kilometers north in Leipzig triggered a revolution, pre-1989 grassroots players launched innovative reconstruction programs with financial and organizational expertise from West Germans. Together, they transformed Europe's filthiest village into a healthy place to live and imbued it with new symbolism, turning it into a sign of hope. The political will and social engagement that saved Mölbis and rejuvenated the surrounding wasteland can inform how to revitalize other postindustrial "filthy places" in our world today.

Ins Zentrum ihrer Analyse rückten transnatio­nale Netzwerke wie Masar Badil und Samidoun, die unter dem Begriff 'Widerstand' eine politische Erzählung propagieren, in der bewaffnete islamistische Gruppen wie Hamas, Palästinensischer Islamischer Dschihad oder Hisbollah als legitime Akteure eines globalen antiimperialistischen Kampfes erscheinen - eine Erzählung, die seit dem 7. Studies in National Governance and Emerging Technologies

This book examines how artificial intelligence systems and their applications in security and defence are entangled with governance and policy processes in the EU. Combining concepts and insights from (critical) security studies and science and technology studies, it argues that behind the various AI-related policy initiatives in the EU are particular narratives on security and defence based on European fears of technological innovation and strategic gaps. In this respect, the book casts light on how such beliefs have become increasingly instrumentalized in the European governance dynamics, and subsequently embedded in successive policy initiatives and security and defence research programmes. It challenges conventional understandings of AI technologies as mere security and defence-enabling instruments, by providing a conceptually driven analysis of how certain visions of AI help govern and control one of the most dynamic emergent socio-technical fields. The book will appeal to all those interested in artificial intelligence, security studies, technology and European governance.&nbsp;
 
 Raluca Csernatoni is a Research Fellow at Carnegie Europe, where she works on the nexus between European defence and emerging technologies.
