Exodus from Cardiganshire

Cooper examines the Victorian migration from rural to urban Britain by focusing on the population dispersal from the Welsh county of Cardiganshire (now Ceredigion) to the city centers of Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire, London, and the industrial cities of north-west England. She relates the rate and timing of such outward movements from the county to the prevailing social and economic conditions and uses census data to examine key dimensions of the communities at the major migrant destinations.
