Drivers of Economic Growth, Inequality, and Poverty Among Provinces in Vietnam

Innovation gilt als zentraler Treiber wirtschaftlicher Entwicklung. Gleichzeitig zeigen zahlreiche empirische Befunde, dass Innovationsprozesse selten frei von historischen Prägungen verlaufen. Die Autorin untersucht das Spannungsfeld zwischen Innovationsfähigkeit und Pfadabhängigkeit und analysiert, wie vergangene Entscheidungen, Routinen und institutionelle Strukturen die Entwicklung von Geschäftsmodellen langfristig beeinflussen.
Die Arbeit verbindet dafür Ansätze der Forschung zu Komplexität, Interdependenz, Modularität und Geschäftsmodellen mit der Theorie der Pfadabhängigkeit. Neben dieser neuartigen Kombination von Theorien folgt sie auch methodisch einem aufkommenden Trend: Der Integration von historischer Forschung in Managementstudien. Auf Basis der empirischen Analyse wird aufgezeigt, unter welchen Bedingungen Pfadabhängigkeit Innovationen hemmen, stabilisieren oder gezielt genutzt werden kann. Der untersuchte Fall eines Top-Players der Systemgastronomie zeigt anhand von Uses of the Past, dass Geschichte nicht nur eine Folge von Ereignissen in der Vergangenheit ist, sondern eine Ressource, mit der die Zukunft von Unternehmen gestaltet werden kann.
Das Buch leistet einen Beitrag zum besseren Verständnis der Dynamik von Innovationsprozessen und bietet zugleich praxisrelevante Implikationen für Unternehmen und politische Entscheidungsträger, die vor der Herausforderung stehen, etablierte Pfade zu überwinden oder bewusst weiterzuentwickeln.

New Frontiers in Regional Science: Asian Perspectives

This book focuses on a very important and still controversial topic in Japan, namely, whether a future exists for Japanese farmers, especially rice-producing farmers. Dealt with here is the prospect along with a personal view of the course that Japanese agriculture should follow, that is, a prescription for enriching the international competitiveness of the agricultural sector, especially rice production, in a more market-oriented economy. Toward restoration of Japanese agriculture, prescriptions are pursued from different aspects. One is the planting schedule of various farm products at the micro level such as the crop rotation system, derived from the mixed-integer dynamic programming model. Another is a macroeconomic policy to enhance the export of the restored 2 million tons of rice by the abolition of the policy of reducing rice acreage-a policy considered unreasonable by some. The path that agriculture in Japan should take has been argued by scholars and experts in related fields. However, no argument has been based on scientific and objective proof. Some applications of mixed-integer dynamic programming model are shown, which are very useful for policy makers as well as graduate students in the field of economic policy (esp. regional &amp; dynamics) and dynamic agricultural planning (esp. planting &amp; comprehensive management).

This book presents fresh research on how Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), patterns of clustering, digitalization and innovation policies, interact and influence India's industrialisation and its greening or sustainability. As India seeks to accelerate its process of industrialization especially focusing on the manufacturing sector, different interactions between agents of industrialization need to be understood better through evidence-based research. The volume through its 17 original contributions, focuses on three broad interrelated themes: FDI, export performance, innovation and environmental sustainability; growth, competitiveness and spatial distribution of MSMEs concerning access to finance, digitalisation and sustainability; and, green technology, circular economy and challenges towards clean transition and green industrialization. Research presented in this book does not see industrialization as an isolated process from globalization and appreciates the need to act upon specific impacts of foreign trade and investments. With a focused and futuristic approach towards industrialisation in India, it provides rigorous evidence-based treatment of complex interactions using secondary and primary sources of data deploying appropriate analytical techniques.
