The trade with cultural assets is not free; indeed, it is governed by numerous national and supranational provisions. The work intends to clarify the relationship of such trade restrictions and the constitutionally stipulated ownership guarantee. For this purpose the author scrutinizes the legal systems as well as the practice of European countries.<br></p>
